Why should we learn English?

1. After watching this funny video, how do you write the expressions the teacher Anselmo says wrong?

* Rebajas
* ¿Qué es eso?
* ¿Cuánto cuesta?
* Cuesta mucho, por tanto no lo compro.
* Es tacaño

2. Now, look up the following words related to shopping in the dictionary (remember you can use the link in this blog, on the right):

1. A big building with a lot of shops (sometimes with some restaurants and cinemas too).
2. The different things you can use to pay.
3. When you don't like something you have bought and you bring it back to the shop to _________
4. The person who works in a shop and helps you. And, the one who buys is called ____________
5. When you want to buy things you go ____________

3. Add 5 more words related to this topic.

4. To finish this exercise, imagine this situation: you go to a sport shop because you bought a pair of trainers last week but they are too small and you want a bigger pair. Write the conversation between the person who works in the shop and you.

Let´s learn about London

Tower Bridge is a moveable bridge in London (England), over the river Thames. It is close to another monument: The Tower of London. It was built in 1894 by Horace Jones and it was created to join west and east areas. People can visit it and see how it works and enjoy beautiful views of London from the high level walkways.

Task: Seek information about 3 more monuments in London. Some examples are: Big Ben, Tower of London, London Eye, Trafalgar Square, Buckingham Palace, St Paul´s Cathedral, The Monument... Then, answer the following questions and add a photograph of the monument:

  1. What is it?
  2. When was it built?
  3. Why was it built?
  4. Who did it?
Here you have some links where you can find this information:

How do you feel today?

Listen and repeat. You will listen to 8 emotions but you can only see 6 in the photos. There are two emotions mentioned that don't appear in the pictures. Which ones? Write them in "comments", but before that:

Look up in the dictionary 10 more emotions and then write at the end of your previous comment how you feel today; for example I feel eager, or helpful, or greedy... (write all these words related to emotions in the dictionary you created in your notebook)

Idioms

You already know what an idiom is (typical expression of a language). There are idioms in Spanish and English, some are different and some are similar.
Here, you have a link where you will watch a video and you will learn some idioms related to colors. After watching it:
  • write two English idioms similar to Spanish ones, and
  • two English idioms different from the way we express them in Spanish (they're as different as chalk and cheese ;) )
